Best Restaurants in Athens

With a several decade reputation and fond memories of its opening year (yes, I'm THAT old) I always go to the Grit when I'm in Athens. A pretty wide menu for a vegetarian place, I like to try something new every visit-though I've covered the entire menu a time or two. I stuck with the Staple (black bean substitute) this round, add veggie scramble. Good, as usual! My wife had the burger and while the toppings and bread were good, the patty was pretty bland...my daughter had the full blown nachos... That was the best from the table. The venerable Grit has seen some time in Athens, and it's a good standard. But not great. Like any landmark in a tourist town, the locals tend to stay away, but visitors can't resist going to a place they've heard about. It's not a disappointment to be sure, and if you need vegetarian they probably offer the widest menu, but I think I'm good for a few more years now. I got the t-shirt. And a memory from 25 years ago when I, too, was a trendy art student.that'll do for a while.
